Firstmark Credit Union and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Help Area Families Complete Tax Returns and Save an estimated $400,000 in refunds.
San Antonio, Texas (PRWEB) March 12, 2015 -- Firstmark Credit Union hosted the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program over five days at the Culebra and Southwest Military branch locations. During that time, volunteers helped 163 families prepare and file their 2014 income taxes for an estimated $400,000 in refunds.
"Firstmark Credit Union is pleased to make the VITA program available not only to our members, but also the community at large,” said Leon Ewing, President/CEO. “We saw a high turnout each day which validates the need for this kind of assistance.”
Through VITA, families who earned less than $60,000 during 2014 have free access to trained volunteers who can help make sure they are claiming important tax credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Tax Credit. Benefits like these can add up to significant savings.
“We are so happy to be partnering with Firstmark Credit Union,” said Sheila Anderson-Ruth, City of San Antonio, VITA Program Manager. “It is support from our community partners that help ensure we are able to reach and serve the people who need this help.”
