Oakland, CA (PRWEB) March 12, 2015 -- ****FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE***
Oakland Zoo officials are ecstatic about an announcement from AC Transit. The transit authority is implementing service changes that will greatly improve transportation options for Oakland Zoo guests. Beginning on Sunday, March 15, AC Transit’s Line 46 will start offering an extended weekend service, allowing passengers to take the bus from the Coliseum BART stop directly to Oakland Zoo. Buses will operate every hour between 9:00am to 4:00pm. During summer months, the service will increase to every thirty minutes. “We are thrilled that AC Transit is expanding weekend service to Oakland Zoo,” said Nik Dehejia, CFO at Oakland Zoo. “This new service will allow more Bay Area residents and visitors in the area to experience this world class Zoo”. The bus stop is conveniently located at the Zoo’s lower entrance, which makes entering Oakland Zoo’s Wayne and Gladys Valley Children’s Zoo very accessible to bus riders.
The extended bus service gives the Oakland community the opportunity to travel to Oakland Zoo seven days a week. "This new service to one of the East Bay’s most popular destinations has long been requested, and AC Transit has diligently worked to provide it,'' said AC Transit spokesman Clarence Johnson. "We’re gratified that we now have been able to find enough funding to broaden bus service to the Zoo, and we heartedly thank the community for its ongoing support in this effort." Not only will guests benefit from the new service, a number of Zoo employees that rely on AC Transit for transportation to and from work will now be able to take advantage of Line 46 on weekends. The extended weekend service is part of AC Transit’s service improvements, which began in December of 2014.
