California Coastal Landmark, San Pedro Fish Market, To Award YouTube Scholarship Winners to All Four Harbor Area High Schools On Friday, March 20 at 3:00 PM
San Pedro, CA (PRWEB) March 13, 2015 -- California Coastal Landmark, the San Pedro Fish Market and Restaurant, will be honoring the achievements of 28 students from all four Harbor Area High Schools -- Banning High School, Mary Star of the Sea Catholic High School, San Pedro High School, and Port of Los Angeles High School in the first ever YouTube Scholarship program in the harbor area.
"Harbor area high schools turn out the leaders of our community and we wanted to give kids an outlet to say why they loved their high school, loved their community, and felt connected to the future of the Harbor area," said Mike Ungaro, Senior Vice President, San Pedro Fish Market and Restaurant. "Each of the videos was amazing and it is clear the incredible talent that is being developed in our classrooms."
In January, working with principals at all four high schools, San Pedro Fish Market offered students the opportunity to apply for $1,000 scholarships by posting a video on YouTube, that was coordinated with their school, and showed the reasons why they loved their community and their school. To qualify for the scholarship, students then had to tag the video with #ilovesanpedro and #ilovewilmington.
"On behalf of all the students, parents, and staff at POLAHS, thank you for your generosity and for choosing to support the youth of the Harbor Community! We can only hope that more local businesses will follow the Fish Market's lead by taking a proactive approach to community redevelopment," said Tom Scotti, Principal of Port of Los Angeles High School. "Rather than sitting around griping about what the city needs to do to make things better, San Pedro Fish Market & Restaurant is busy making sure our future leaders reach their potential."
The awards event on Friday, March 20 at 3:00 PM will be held dockside to the main channel for the Port of Los Angeles. All four high schools, major scholarship award winners, and area leaders including Senator Isadore Hall, Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka, Port of Los Angeles Deputy Executive Doane Liu have confirmed their participation along with several other invitees (list attached).
