Bode Equipment Company (BODE), New England’s premier provider of material handling, overhead door and loading dock solutions, is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the prestigious MVP (Most Valuable Partner) Status by the Material Handling Equipment Distributors Association (MHEDA). This is the fourth consecutive year that Bode has received this top industry honor which recognizes outstanding achievements in business excellence, professionalism and good stewardship.

The Most Valuable Partner designation recognizes those distributors who have achieved, through documented processes and performance, excellence in customer service, supplier relationships, employee training and community involvement. To be awarded MVP status, a distributor must demonstrate achievements in the five critical areas of Industry Relations, Customer Relations, Peer-to-Peer Networking, Training, and Best Practices.

“Members of MHEDA represent the best companies in the industry. Recognition as a MHEDA MVP is an even greater endorsement to a company’s commitment to excellence and industry leadership,” comments 2014 MHEDA President, Scott Hennie.

Bode was nominated for the MHEDA award by their customer, Baker Distributing, a Vermont-based beverage distributor, and the main supplier to the project, Wildeck, Inc., a manufacturer of industrial steel work platforms (mezzanines) and vertical reciprocating conveyors (VRC's). As part of a large, multi-vendor project, Bode utilized a combination of mezzanines and vertical conveyors to provide additional storage space without increasing the footprints of the existing warehouses.

“The mezzanine platforms made a lot of sense to us because we were already heating the space, and we had room above us to expand,” comments Gerry Couture, General Manager of Baker Distributing.

Bode President, Scott Fawcett, designed a plan that called for the installation of two mezzanine platforms, combined with a VRC and a variety of safety gates and guard rail. The new configuration not only provided additional storage and more room for order picking, it also moved employees and product off the ground floor and away from busy forklift traffic increasing safety. The VRC also greatly enhanced warehouse safety and productivity.

“Having a VRC works great for us because we needed an apparatus to bring product down from the second level without disturbing the built pallet, and coming down on a forklift wasn’t the answer, otherwise we’d lose product,” Couture continues. “The thing I love about the VRCs is that we’re building pallets for customers, and they can be very unstable due to their different shapes and sizes. The VRCs allow us to bring them down to the first level without any breakage. VRCs really made the best sense for us.”

In addition to the VRC, the mezzanine platform has two gates that allow pallets to be on- and off-loaded from a forklift and Wilgard Guard Rail was installed to protect the VRC and other equipment from the forklifts. The installation at Baker’s Colchester facility was so successful that a similar setup was installed at their Colchester warehouse.

“Time and again Bode has proven itself to be a soup-to-nuts first class company,” Couture said. “Their recommendation of Wildeck was right on the money. We couldn’t be happier with the solutions Wildeck and Bode provided.”
