With the constant threat of inclement weather in Florida, it is essential to offer products that can withstand the worst that Mother Nature has to offer.

Boral TruExterior™ Siding and Trim, the first brand of poly-ash building products, recently received Florida Product Approval FL17285 from the Florida Building Commission. The Florida Product Approval System establishes standards for performance of building products, materials and systems during hurricanes.

The Florida Product Approval is the latest in a long list of industry certifications for Boral TruExterior® Products. Most recently, Boral TruExterior™ Siding and Trim have been identified by the California State Fire Marshall’s Wildland-Urban Interface listing in California and Cradle to Cradle Certified™ (sustainability) by the non-profit Cradle to Cradle™ Products Innovation Institute.

“The Product Approval in Florida is earned by products that realize a higher level of accountability during the severe weather conditions common in the state, broadening the acceptance for Boral TruExterior™ Siding and Trim throughout the state,” said Aaron Sims, Business Development Manager for Boral’s Light Building Products Division. “The Boral TruExterior® product portfolio continues to exceed various building standards, not only in sustainability but also in performance. Boral TruExterior™ Siding’s durability, ease of install and availability in historically-accurate profiles make it an excellent product for Florida’s diverse markets. ”

Governed by the Florida Building Commission, the Florida Product Approval System was implemented in 2003 to improve the standards of building products and solutions. The law and Commission rule covers products that affect the structural integrity of buildings during hurricanes. Among the product categories included are: windows, exterior doors, roofing, and other structural components. New and innovative building envelope products like Boral TruExterior™ Siding and Trim also seek evaluation from the Commission.

“With the constant threat of inclement weather in Florida, it is essential to offer products that can withstand the worst that Mother Nature has to offer,” said Ed Vila, Managing Partner at Universal Building Specialties in Auburndale, Florida. “The Florida Product Approval gives Boral TruExterior™ Siding and Trim yet another performance validation. The features of the product are apparent and now, with certifications for everything from fire resistance to sustainability to hurricane endurance, we are offering customers something that is truly unrivaled in the market.”

Boral TruExterior™ Siding and Trim are the first poly-ash siding and trim products on the market, comprised of coal combustion products (fly ash) and a proprietary polymer blend to make products with a high level of dimensional stability and virtually no moisture cycling. Suitable for ground contact, Boral TruExterior™ Siding and Trim can be installed using traditional woodworking tools and methods, plus there is no need for back priming, or to prime or seal ends or field cuts. The product comes primed and may be painted any color. And unlike wood, there is no need to leave a gap between courses and no sap or tannins to bleed. Resistant to termites, Boral TruExterior™ Siding and Trim also includes a 20-year limited warranty.
