Arduino Compatible Compiler for LabVIEW

The Arduino Compatible Compiler for LabVIEW enables the power of LabVIEW’s graphical programming language to lower the learning curve for education of embedded systems and to accelerate Arduino™ based embedded application development.

Aledyne Engineering, Inc. and TSXperts, LLC, leading LabVIEW solutions providers delivering forward-thinking products and services, today announced the release of an innovative new product to the LabVIEW Tools Network. The Arduino Compatible Compiler for LabVIEW bridges the gap between the Test and Measurements industry, LabVIEW and the Maker community. This product will take a LabVIEW program and compile and download it to Arduino™ compatible targets. The downloaded code will execute embedded and standalone on the Arduino target. This is very unique and an important step beyond existing products that only provide a way to have LabVIEW function as a simple user interface to a running sketch on an Arduino™ board.

This is a great way to leverage the graphical paradigm of LabVIEW to program simple standalone embedded systems on low-cost Arduino™ based hardware. It is also a great educational tool to teach embedded software programming to entry level students using graphical programming without the steep learning curve of the C++ programming language.

Matthew Friedman, Group Manager for the LabVIEW Tools Network at National Instruments, says “The Arduino Compatible Compiler for LabVIEW enables the power of LabVIEW’s graphical programming language to lower the learning curve for education of embedded systems and to accelerate Arduino™ based embedded application development.”

Two separate product editions have been released: a Home edition priced at $99 in support of the Maker Movement and Education and a Standard edition for professional use.

Features include:

  • Utilize low cost Arduino™ hardware for simple Test & Measurement applications
  • Many LabVIEW primitives and datatypes supported
  • Custom palettes for interfacing with Arduino™ I/O and shields
  • Out-of-box experience – just select a LabVIEW program and download
  • Program simple embedded systems using graphical programming
  • Home Edition for education and home use
