Top Marine Logisticians from 2014 Recognized at 11th Annual Marine Corps Association & Foundation Ground Logistics Awards Dinner
Arlington, Virginia (PRWEB) March 21, 2015 -- The Marine Corps Association & Foundation held the 11th Annual MCA&F Ground Logistics Awards Dinner on March 12 in coordination with Headquarters Marine Corps, Installations & Logistics Division. The Awards dinner was held at the Crystal Gateway Marriott Hotel in Arlington, Virginia, and provided the opportunity to recognize top performing Marine logisticians in 2014.
The evening’s guest speaker, General Joseph F. Dunford, Jr., 36th Commandant of the Marine Corps, discussed the special challenges facing Marines in today’s turbulent environment and focused on the vital role Marine logistics plays in widely dispersed operations on a global scale. Following his remarks, General Dunford helped present the evening’s awards which included the following:
• The 2014 1st Lt Travis Manion Memorial Marine Corps Officer Logistician of the Year Award, sponsored by Raytheon and the Marine Corps Association & Foundation was presented to Captain Sean Day, USMC. The namesake for this award was killed in action, courageously defending his unit during an ambush in Al Anbar Province, Iraq, in Iraq in 2007.
• The 2014 Marine Corps Enlisted Logistician of the Year Award, sponsored by Oracle and the Marine Corps Association & Foundation was presented to Gunnery Sergeant Dustin Sammons.
• The 2014 Civilian Marine Logistician of the Year Award, sponsored by Claxton Logistics and the Marine Corps Association was presented to retired Marine Gunnery Sergeant, Mr. Andrew M. Trout.
• The Marine Logistics Unit of the Year – 2014, sponsored by IR Technologies and the Marine Corps Association & Foundation was awarded to 3d Maintenance Battalion
