Sorrel Sky Gallery announces the representation of contemporary Western painter, Marlin Rotach, to its Santa Fe location.

Growing up as the son of a commercial artist and stock horse trainer in Kansas, Rotach developed an early love for art, art history and the American West. After earning his B.F.A and M.F.A in painting, he began working primarily in the medium of watercolor. He is particularly interested in emphasizing various qualities of light and shadow in his paintings. The transparent aspect of watercolor particularly suits this interest. Rotach offers, “I employ many experimental and traditional techniques to get the desired results...shadowed underpainting, transparent glazes, salt washes, scraping and bruising the paper.”

Rotach has been awarded signature memberships in many prestigious watercolor societies including the Transparent Watercolor Society of America, National Watercolor Society and the Watercolor U.S.A. Honor Society. He creates watercolor paintings for galleries, private commissions and corporate collections and has received over twenty high awards and honors from numerous juried aquamedia shows.

In 2004, International Artist Magazine named him a Master Painter of the World. His work has been featured in Southwest Art, Western Art Collector, The Artist’s Magazine and many others publications. In addition, Rotach was selected as the featured artist for the 2009 American Royal Western Art Exhibition and the official poster artist for the 2014 Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo.

Shanan Campbell Wells, gallery owner states, “Marlin’s watercolors are vibrant and fresh and masterfully executed.”

Sorrel Sky Gallery’s fresh approach to Western art presents a select collection of contemporary and traditional fine art and jewelry for the discerning collector. Sorrel Sky Gallery was founded in Durango, CO, in 2002 and opened its Santa Fe, NM, location in 2014. It represents over 60 painters, sculptors and jewelers including bronze artist Star Liana York, painter Billy Schenck, and former U.S. Senator Ben Nighthorse, among others.
