Plans on Public Exchanges Added 6.5 Million Covered Lives in 2014; AIS Resources Provide Enrollment, Premium Data by Company
Washington, DC (PRWEB) March 24, 2015 -- In-house researchers for Atlantic Information Services, Inc. (AIS), have found 6.5 million new lives were attributed to carriers participating in public exchanges for the 2014 plan year. These findings were produced from data found in AIS’s Directory of Health Plans: 2015, the definitive source for health insurance enrollment data, which was released last month.
Of the insurers that reported exchange enrollment, Anthem, Inc. reported the highest tally, with 751,000 public exchange lives from the 23 individual and SHOP exchanges on which the company listed products in 2014. Despite dropping out of several exchanges before open enrollment, Aetna, Inc. came in second with 607,276 lives resulting from its participation under the Aetna and Coventry brands. Listings in AIS’s Directory of Health Plans: 2015 include national and state-level enrollment data by company, and national enrollment by sector, in addition to a chapter exclusively dedicated to health plan participation in health insurance exchanges.
Another resource available from AIS, Health Insurance Exchange Database: 2015 Plans and Premiums, provides monthly premium rates, by exchange, broken down by insurer/plan/tier/rating area. Users of both products can now link carrier-level enrollment data to the premium rates these carriers are offering on exchanges for the 2015 plan year. And since the Health Insurance Exchange Database also includes rates for the 2014 plan year, users can see how enrollment successes or challenges may have informed rate-setting decisions.
According to data in AIS’s Health Insurance Exchange Database, premiums in 2015 for products on public exchanges ranged for the individual market from $108.74 for a Bronze HMO offered by New Mexico Health Connections to $1,027.19 for an Anthem, Inc. HMO offered in New York. For the small-group market, premiums ranged from $116.60 for a PPO offered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma to $833.65 for a Gold EPO offered by UnitedHealthcare in Wisconsin.
Research and data tracking for both resources is conducted by in-house researchers who work exclusively for AIS, relying on their extensive contacts at health plans and state governments.
