Ultimate Spelling Discusses February, The Odd Month In New Blog, eReflect Editors Announce
New York City, NY (PRWEB) March 25, 2015 -- “Why is February the odd one out?” is the title of a recent post on the Ultimate Spelling™ blog, in which the editors explains the historical events that led to the odd fact that February only has 28 days.
Ultimate Spelling™, a program that helps people improve spelling skills, discusses the history of the calendar. The Romulus calendar (the calendar used by the Romans in 8 B.C.) had a different structure from the Gregorian calendar put in place later. In that early calendar, only ten months were included. This eventually led to a misalignment between the seasons and and the calendar months, the editors explain. The Romulus calendar was soon replaced by King Numa’s own version. Numa added January and February so that the solar year aligned more accurately with the calendar months.
As the eReflect editor notes, however, this didn’t solve the issue once and for all. The year was still 10 days short. It wasn’t until Caesar’s time that the calendar finally came together. Julius Caesar decided to restructure the calendar and assign the 10 days equally to the other months except for February, which was left with only 28 days. Ultimate Spelling™ clarifies the allocation of the days, saying,
“The ten additional days were assigned as follows: January, August, and December got two extra days; April, June, September, and November got an extra day. Running out of days, February remained the shortest month with only 28 days. Unless it’s a leap year, then it has 29. This version was known as the Julian calendar and it was finalized during the time of Augustus, Caesar’s successor.”
eReflect hopes that now more people are aware of the story behind February, the most under-appreciated month. It’s a fact that can be a great conversation starter, the learn to spell software designer reports, along with knowing exactly how to spell and pronounce the name of the month. Many people forget that there is an "r" in the name, since it is rarely pronounced as part of the word. Ultimate Spelling™ is one of the best spelling programs because it helps adults and children alike improve their literacy by learning important aspects of everyday language, including the history behind words.
