It is an honor to give back in some small way for the immeasurable sacrifices members of the military make for us every day
(Andover, MA) (PRWEB) March 25, 2015
Effective Student Marketing, a national digital marketing agency specializing in higher education, is sponsoring this year’s Run for the Troops 5K, being held on Sunday, April 12th in Andover. The community road race, along with a Friday evening dinner and silent auction, raises funds for local veterans in affiliation with the national nonprofit Homes for our Troops, an organization committed to housing disabled and injured veterans.
Proceeds from this year’s events will help build a specially adapted home for Marine Staff Sergeant Hans Blum in the Sanford, Maine area. Blum lost both of his legs when he stepped on an IED while serving in Afghanistan in February, 2012. After undergoing 40 surgeries, Blum now wears prosthetics during the day, but uses a wheelchair at home. His current house is not suited for his considerable needs. According to Blum, a more adaptive living space would free up time for him to pursue an education in recreational therapy at the University of New Hampshire so he could eventually help others with disabilities.
Effective Student Marketing has previously sponsored the events and its president, Andy Kelley, said that it is an "honor to give back in some small way for the immeasurable sacrifices members of the military make for us every day."
"Staff Sergeant Hans Blum has suffered a devastating injury," said Kelley, "and yet he still wants to give more. He is pursuing a career that will allow him to help others with disabilities. If a home that is more adaptive to his unique situation can help him reach his goals, then I am happy to do what I can to help."
This year, funds will also support the Ironstone Farm in Andover which uses horses to provide therapy for people with a wide range of physical, cognitive and emotional disabilities. Proceeds from Run for the Troops will help soldiers at the farm who are being treated for post-traumatic stress disorder.
Kelley noted that in addition to its financial support, Effective Student Marketing has also helped promote the event and expects to have a strong staff showing at the race. The race begins at 9:00 AM at 36 Bartlett Street and loops through the neighborhoods of Andover. There will be live entertainment and refreshments, and awards are presented to teams and individuals across age categories.
