On Monday, March 16, Borsello Landscaping welcomed their newest employee, Jesse Chenitz, on his first day of work.

Chenitz will be working alongside his designer colleagues to help create personalized landscaping projects such as patios, ponds, and front walkways. In addition to his designing skills, he also is a certified professional horticulturalist, meaning he is comfortable with designing models on a computer as well as getting into the gritty, hands-on fieldwork needed for any garden.

Chenitz is a graduate of the University of Maryland's Department of Plant Science & Landscape Architecture with a concentration in landscape management. He has worked in landscaping design for five years, specializing in residential projects, and is a member of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers.

His dedication to landscaping sprung from his interest in both "scientific horticulture and down and dirty field work."

"I soon found," he said, "that landscape designing required a balance of horticultural knowledge and artistic creativity, and I greatly enjoy the combination of detailed computer drafting and outdoor field work."

His interest in horticulture began early, working with his mother at a young age in the garden. "My mother provided my initial inspiration to explore landscaping as a career, and she continues to be a source of knowledge and experience as I grow and learn in this industry."

Chenitz ultimately feels confident that his finely-tuned balance of artistry, pragmatism, and technical know-how make him a valuable commodity in the landscaping industry.

"What sets me apart is my balance of artistic aestheticism and practical knowledge," he said. "I combine an enthusiasm for old-school hands-on gardening with the capabilities of modern computer aided design technologies."

When he's not done excelling at his job, he enjoys gardening, hiking, hunting, and the "creation of terrariums and bonsai trees."
