DiabetesSisters is pleased to announce financial support from Janssen Pharmaceuticals Inc. in the amount of $25,000 for a groundbreaking project in the field of diabetes. The project, which involves both DiabetesSisters and a partnering organization, The Society for Women’ Health Research, will result in the production of a landmark report on women and diabetes. The “Women & Diabetes: 10Q Report” will examine major areas of in need of research to improve the health and wellbeing of women with diabetes. Janssen’s support of $25,000 will allow the two organizations to develop Report content in collaboration with leading diabetes researchers, clinicians, and patient advocates. The Report is expected to available in the fall of 2015 and will be widely distributed among key decision makers and patients throughout the US.

Because both DiabetesSissters and Janssen share the similar goal of helping people to live healthfully and with access to quality care, this formal partnership was a natural fit. Janssen is a leading provider of medications for several areas of need, including care for people living with diabetes. Janssen also provides educational and management resources to help improve the coordination of care in healthcare settings, a pursuit that is in line with the creation and distribution of DiabetesSisters 10Q report.

Janssen Pharmaceuticals is committed to supporting nonprofit organizations who aim to advance the health of patients in local or national communities. By providing funds to DiabetesSisters, Janssen is able to promote healthcare access and disease prevention for women while also remaining committed to the local communities and the world in which their employees live and work. Janssen’s work with DiabetesSisters began in 2014 with financial support of DiabetesSisters’ 2014 Weekend for Women Conference in Los Angeles. Founder and CEO of DiabetesSisters, Brandy Barnes, calls Janssen’s most recent contribution “transformational,” adding “This is a great example of how nonprofits and for-profits can come together to make important progress on a health issue that is important to both.”
