Toolwire and Jones & Bartlett Learning Release Virtual Security Cloud Labs, Version 2.0
Pleasanton, Calif. and Burlington, Mass. (PRWEB) March 26, 2015 -- Toolwire and Jones & Bartlett Learning (JBL) today announced the release of several significant updates to their original, award winning Virtual Security Cloud Labs.
As part of its twelve-title Information Systems Security and Assurance (ISSA) Curriculum, JBL partnered with Toolwire in 2011 to develop the JBL Virtual Security Cloud Labs. Since then, these labs have been used to train more than 27,000 higher education students across more than 90 institutions. These labs are also available as part of ten 5-day, intensive cybersecurity training boot camps available through Global Knowledge, a world leading IT and business skills training provider.
Virtual Security Cloud Labs, Version 2.0 incorporate four primary enhancements to the training environment previously recognized at InfoSec’s 2013 Global Excellence Awards for best "Security Training and Educational Program." These enhancements include:
• Embedded Lab Manuals — Integrated lab guides located in the left margin of the desktop frameset enable users to learn entirely online.
• More Virtual Labs — Fifteen new labs added for a total of 80 labs across eight courses.
• Challenge Questions — New questions added that focus on real world scenarios.
• Updated Software — Updates to all operating systems, software and virtual machines.
"Toolwire has developed, hosted and supported customized virtual desktop environments for more than 15 years," commented Cameron D. Crowe, Toolwire’s Executive Vice President. "As part of this latest release, we have architected an unparalleled environment with Toolwire lab guides providing step-by-step instruction on more than 20 leading software programs that are typically utilized in enterprise class security implementations. When coupled with Jones & Bartlett Learning’s premium content and our outstanding support 24x7x365, the value of this offering is unsurpassed."
By 2018, the need for information security professionals is expected to grow by 30 percent, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. To meet this demand, academic institutions throughout the country are offering new degree and certificate programs within the rapidly growing field of cybersecurity.
Making information technology (IT) courses relevant and engaging is a big challenge. The opportunity to learn on real, industry-standard technology motivates students because they know that this is the type of authentic, hands-on experience that will prepare them for successful careers.
For higher education institutions, the Virtual Security Cloud labs are attractive for many reasons. Toolwire manages licensing directly with software vendors, which saves institutions time. Leveraging virtual desktops lessens the need for expensive IT support staff and allows them to deploy resources more effectively. For both on-ground and online programs, virtual desktops provide students a consistent, highly reliable experience. These fail-safe practice labs keep learning self contained so that student activities are isolated in a safe environment and do not put a learning institution’s assets at risk. Finally, the fact that these labs are backed 24x7x365 by Toolwire’s experienced, in-house support team provides tremendous reassurance to educators and allows them to concentrate their efforts on instruction.
