Dr. David Smith’s recognition began when we founded, Haight-Ashbury Free Clinics, a free service for patients throughout northern California, in response to thousands of youths seeking medical attention in San Francisco in 1967. The Clinic was initially funded by the proceeds of a local benefit concert, as the popularity grew the concert featured infamous bands such as, The Grateful Dead and Led Zeppelin. Dr. Smith’s clinic created medical emergency tents for the concert, which became known as “Rock Medicine.” This branch of Dr. Smith’s Clinic is still in operation today and provides medical assistant to hundreds of music concerts each year throughout the nation.
