IDR Environmental Services announces its, Shop Your Hazardous Waste List Program, to provide businesses generating hazardous waste, with a new way to ensure they they’re getting a fair price from their disposal company.

Hazardous waste disposal company, IDR Environmental Services, Inc. is publicly leading the way with a free price-quoting service newly introduced to the industry. This service lets businesses “shop their hazardous waste disposal list” to find out if they’re getting a market-rate quote from their disposal company.

Why might this be necessary? Because prices from disposal companies can vary widely — not necessarily due to quality of service. Being overcharged, or even incurring hidden charges, is a legitimate concern for businesses generating hazardous waste.

This new service allows businesses to send their list of waste streams to IDR. The company does not ask for information about which disposal company they’re being compared to.

According to Richard Espinoza of IDR, they only need a “description of the waste, whether it is a liquid or solid, the size of the container and the quantity.” The process remains confidential.

In return, the disposal company provides an unbiased quote. This quote is based on the appraisal of the work, rather than competition from other companies. Waste generators can then compare prices from other disposal services and determine if the quote they received is a fair price.

Disposal companies who are spearheading this service are showing their customers they have nothing to hide. They are giving customers the power to make more educated decisions about the service they’re getting. Hazardous waste companies shying away from the new “shop your list” service are presumed to be offering sub-par quotes, giving these disposal companies incentive to engage in more honest business practices to retain customers.

As this new service spreads, it will reduce incentive to “low ball the initial quote and then tack on surcharges, hidden transportation fees, profiling fees and so on that make your hazardous waste disposal project doomed from the start” (Espinoza).

IDR Environmental Services, like other up-front disposal companies, maintains that this service won’t hurt their bottom line, as their prices are already competitive.
