Premier Subaru Presents a Check for $33,239 to Camp Rising Sun as the “Hometown Charity” in the 2014 “Share the Love” Campaign
Branford, CT (PRWEB) March 31, 2015 -- Robert J. Alvine, President, Premier Subaru, presented Shaun Heffernan, Director, Camp Rising Sun, with a check for $33,239 this afternoon in the dealership’s showroom in Branford. The donation represented the proceeds from the seventh annual “Share the Love” event, in which anyone that purchased or leased a new Subaru could make a $250 donation to one of four national charities – ASPCA, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Meals on Wheels Association of America, the National Park Foundation – or a fifth local charity for their customers to support. Premier Subaru selected Camp Rising Sun as their “hometown charity” for the 2014 campaign.
“Thanks to Bob Alvine and the entire Premier Subaru Team, we will be able to provide an awesome summer camp experience to even more kids with cancer,” said Mr. Heffernan. “Being a small volunteer organization without a national sponsor, fundraising is always a challenge. Bob and his team’s hard work will help put smiles on the faces of our campers this summer.”
“I am honored to participate with such an organization. An organization that brings smiles to brave children and their families,” remarked Mr. Alvine. “We are duly proud to have raised this money and deeply thank our customers and employees.”
“Share the Love” ran from Nov. 20, 2014 to Jan. 2, 2015 and was expected to donate up to $15 million over the course of the campaign nationwide. In the last six years, Subaru of America has donated over $35 million to different charities. In 2013, Subaru of America gave dealers the option to add a local charity.
Camp Rising Sun was designed to provide a safe nurturing environment to children ages 5 through 17 who have been diagnosed with cancer. Camp Week takes place at Camp Jewell YMCA in Colebrook, CT. A number of “Senior Campers” have become “Leaders in Training” to help with the younger campers and plan activities. Camp Rising Sun has been around since 1983 and has grown to over 100 campers!
One former camper, Freddy Samoskevich, now one of the assistant directors, said, “The biggest part of Camp Rising Sun was the social aspect of it because when you’re young, you’re going through all kinds of things like hospitals and medication and it’s really hard to make social connections, but (at camp) you can talk about catheters and chemotherapy and everyone would understand and was friends with you.”
