Young Republicans Broadly Support Birth Control and ACA Contraceptive Coverage Requirement
Washington, DC (PRWEB) March 31, 2015 -- Two-thirds of young Republicans believe that every woman should have access to affordable, effective birth control, according to new survey data from leading Republican researcher Kristen Soltis Anderson released by The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy.
Nearly half (48%) of young Republicans think that insurance should cover the full range of FDA approved birth control methods without a co-pay (33% disagree), and more support the Affordable Care Act’s contraceptive coverage requirement than oppose it (43% vs. 30%). At the same time, not surprisingly, 60% of young Republicans hold a negative view of the overall Affordable Care Act.
Other findings from the survey include:
• 45% of young Republicans support the idea of making oral contraceptives available over the counter; 32% oppose the idea.
• 62% of young Republicans support providing more educational programs and campaigns for young adults about all methods of birth control.
• 59% of young Republican women agree that birth control should be treated like any other preventive health care service, although 60% of all young Republicans see birth control as more of a personal convenience than a health care need.
"Young Republicans don't leave their ideology behind when thinking about expanding contraceptive access, and they certainly favor limited government,” says report author Kristen Soltis Anderson. “However, within that context, they want to know how to make sure that the most effective methods of birth control are available to those who want them."
