Elise Som Design Studio Debuts Custom-Made Furniture at Salone 2015 in Milan, Italy
New York, NY (PRWEB) April 01, 2015 -- March 30, 2015—New York and Paris based interior designer Elise Som will present the Animale furniture collection at Salone 2015, the world's foremost furniture fair in Milan, with luxury furniture manufacturer Orsi. The Animale collection brings together elements of Elise Som's Cambodian roots, Parisian upbringing and cosmopolitan lifestyle into bold and sculptural tables and dining chairs. The iconic Dino chair with its spine-like back and the dining table covered with crocodile embossed leather epitomize a new level of design sophistication for any contemporary environment. All of Elise Som's furniture is hand crafted in Italy by Orsi, a contemporary high end furniture manufacturer, and uses materials such as rare woods, polished brass and exotic skin embossed leathers. http://www.elisesom.com
"The Dino chair is one of my most iconic pieces of furniture to date," said Elise Som, principal, Elise Som Design Studio, "because the design is organic and basic as an everyday piece of furniture should be." The Animale Collection is the result of Som's many trips to Africa where she has been researching different African woods for her furniture pieces. Richly stained woods like Wengé and oak are carefully assembled along with hand-dyed and embossed Italian leather to create a statement table that's not overwhelming. "It's the perfect combination of chic and discreet," adds Som. Other dining chairs in the Animale collection feature solid chair backs with the same cut-out pattern as the Dino chair.
Elise Som's other furniture pieces derive their inspiration from all corners of the globe. Focusing on simplicity of line and geometric integrity, Som developed the Aureola collection of tables based on stacks of bangle bracelets. Even the table tops have a thick rim of polished brass that echoes the loops of the base. The brass rings which form table bases are light and elegant and suitable for any setting.
Elise Som grew up in Paris surrounded by the city's inspiring culture and sights. She moved to New York to study at Parsons School of Design where she graduated with a degree in interior design. She worked for architect David Adjaye in London before returning to New York to complete an apartment on Gramercy Square and set up her design studio in 2013. Elise Som Design Studio's mission is to design sophisticated, contemporary interiors for lofts and apartments which led her to create a line of custom-made furniture with Orsi.
