"Neural networks and other deep learning techniques have proven to be very effective in advancing drug research” - Matt Berseth, Co-Founder and Lead Scientist at NLP Logix

NeuroInitiative, a biotech start-up is dedicated to the advancement of research and understanding of the two most common neurodegenerative disorders, Alzheimer's and Parkinson’s Disease. The founders of NeuroInitiative, Spring Behrouz, PhD and Andy Lee, believe that it is imperative to put the tools of advanced computing into the hands of researchers to accelerate the search for a cure for these two diseases that affect nearly 50 million people worldwide.
It was after working as a post-doctoral researcher at the Mayo Clinic studying a new pathogenic genetic mutation for Parkinson’s disease, that Spring Behrouz was inspired to start NeuroInitiative. “I saw great scientific strides being made at these fantastic institutions, and I wanted to create a platform that empowers researchers to leverage the latest advances in cloud-computing.”
The platform is designed to allow researchers to simplify, unravel and understand the complexity of the neuron which is critical to the acceleration of research towards a cure. “One of the biggest challenges is the sheer computing power it takes to model and predict the interactions that will happen in response to treatments” said Andy Lee.
That computing challenge led Dr. Behrouz and Andy Lee to Jacksonville-based NLP Logix, a predictive modeling and machine learning company that has been working for almost four years to develop and put advanced machine learning algorithms into a production environment. “Neural networks and other deep learning techniques have proven to be very effective in advancing drug research” said Matt Berseth, Co-Founder and Lead Scientist at NLP Logix. “We have extensive experience in fitting large amounts of clinical and other data sets to be able to predict probable outcomes given a specific treatment.”
Neuroinitiative is dedicated to the advancement of research and understanding of the two most common neurodegenerative disorders, Alzheimer’s disease, and Parkinson’s Disease. Neuroinitiative combines cutting edge scientific and technological capabilities to create a four dimensional navigation system of pathways inside the neuron. This computer simulation shows great promise in helping researchers simplify, unravel, and understand the complexity of the neuron. Research on Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s is of utmost importance since there is currently no cure for either disease, which together affect nearly 50 million people worldwide.
