Matthews 1812 House won the prestigious 2014 Product of the Year Award at the CT Specialty Food Association's Product Awards Competition held on March 24, 2015. The winning product, Chocolate-Dipped Hazelnut Cookies, also won first place in the gluten-free category.

"We are honored to have our Chocolate-Dipped Hazelnut Cookies named Product of the Year. There are many terrific food companies here in Connecticut and we are thrilled to have our cookies recognized among them," says Cynthia Matthews von Berg, President of Matthews 1812 House.

The CSFA has held a Product Awards Competition for fourteen years in which CT based companies enter their foods in a variety of categories. Products are scored on taste, appearance and quality. Matthews 1812 House, known for baking gourmet cakes and cookies with all natural ingredients, dipped their famous hazelnut cookie in dark, bittersweet chocolate to create the award winning confection.

Both first and second places in the gluten-free class were awarded to Matthews 1812 House. Winning second place was their Cranapple Cookie, a delectable blend of oatmeal, cranberries and apples. Cynthia Matthews von Berg adds, "Gluten-free has increasingly become important to our customers. We love being able to offer the same standard of quality and taste in our gluten-free products that we maintain in our other treats."

In the Confection/Dessert category, the panel of judges awarded Matthews 1812 House second place for their Marzipan Cookies. Decorated with a whole almond on top, these rich and intense cookies join a long line of customer favorites.

Matthews 1812 House started their family business in Cornwall Bridge, CT in 1979 and currently ships nationwide. They bake in small batches with high quality ingredients. Their selection includes traditional cakes and bars as well as sugar free and gluten-free varieties.
