New Orleans, Louisiana home decor company, Slippin' Southern, releases new line of sculptures, tables, and wall art with distressed metallic colors and re-purposed Mississippi barge wood for the Suites at Market Square in High Point, North Carolina for April 2015. The line features mermaids, whales, and historic fishing signs.

Slippin' Southern, LLC mining its coastal roots to introduce a new line of nautical and coastal home and wall decor called “Salvaged Seaside”. Inspiration for this new line comes from the use of salvaged, reclaimed New Orleans barge wood. Originally used to build barges 100 years ago, this old wood came down the Mississippi River and was often cut up and reused in houses and foundations for New Orleans homes. As some of these homes are now being demolished, this beautiful aged wood is being repurposed once again for home decor.

"Our Salvaged Seaside collection is reminisced of port towns all along the coast of Florida from Pensacola to Apalacacola up to Virginia. The focus of this line was really to create pieces that can be combined together to form gallery walls and groups which look as if they were found in the very towns along the coast where peoples' beach houses are," says Susan Havens-Morris, Creative Director/Partner at Slippin Southern.

"The elements around coastal towns and cities are all pretty much the same; fishing ,oystering, shrimping are the industries. Then most have a tourist season which brings the shells, surf, and beach shops alive."

"We explored classic elements of nature and the seas when we developed the pieces”, says Gregory Morris Owner/ Principle and artist of Slippin Southern. "My favorite part of being on the beach, whether by the ocean or gulf, is the Oysters!” We have devoted a few pieces to this love in this new collection.

We have explored life in the ocean, sea life, coastal birds, and always with a touch of history, as well as the coastal lifestyle along the towns. We struck a rustic note in all of the pieces, using deeper colors and our great hand distressed finish to pair perfectly with the rustic reclaimed wood. Many classic nautical influences we love so much were included from whales, sea turtles, octopus, anchors, sailor's themes, as well a surfing and fishing.

We have done for the first time some really grand pieces usually only done for custom or commercial settings, like the 70" Lobster, the life-size ships anchors, elegant mermaids, and full ocean scenes. Plus, some nice large scaled framed works 50+ inches in size. Perfect as a statement piece for the beach house or to bring a little coast to wherever you inhabit.

Most of the pieces can be made to go outdoors as well as indoor. Many of the pieces can be customized and/or enlarged for use indoors as well as outdoors making them perfect to seaside living.
