Mabey Inc. Temporary Matting System Provides Solid Footing on Miami Beach for an International Equine Competition
Miami Beach, FL (PRWEB) April 03, 2015 -- Mabey Inc. installed 690 composite, interlocking mats to build a base layer for 220 World-class show-jumping horses in the Longines Global Champions Tour (LGCT) 2015 scheduled through April 4th.
Mabey’s professional matting crew installed the temporary riding arena in three days, working with city officials to maneuver trucks and loaders through traffic, to provide a stable surface for the event. The mats were then covered with 1,000 tons of sand — and leveled — by Discount Dirt Works out of Lake Worth, Florida. (See photo album here).
Mabey's Shoring Specialist, Jane Collins reflected on the project.
"We've provided matting for emergency access to the beach in other projects but never for an equine arena 'on the beach.' This is a unique project for us and very exciting to watch. Miami officials and police have been great to work with as they escorted our trucks through traffic and the congested streets. It was a team effort to be sure."
Mabey’s Durabase® Mats are eco-friendly and are versatile in any site condition. They can support compressive loads up to 600 lbs. per square inch and do not absorb water or splinter like wood mats. The interlocking lip system and locking pins keep the mats in place while the antiskid surface prevents equipment and crews from slipping.
