First Indian Explorer, Mandip Singh Soin, FRGS, Receives the "Citation of Merit"
Washington, DC (PRWEB) April 02, 2015 -- The ‘Citation of Merit” was awarded to mountaineer and explorer Mandip Singh Soin for his outstanding work in mountaineering and an unmatched spirit of adventure and exploration spanning six continents. Since its inception in 1904, promoting the scientific exploration of land, sea, air and space has been a key founding principle of The Explorers Club.
Established in 1979, Mandip is Founder of Ibex Expeditions – a pioneering adventure travel company specializing in luxury and safari travel in India. Ibex Expeditions has been the recipient of several national and international awards, including the National Award for being India’s ‘Most Innovative Tour Operator’. Additionally, Mandip is the Founding President of the Ecotourism Society of India and a Fellow of the Royal Geographic Society, UK and The Explorers Club of the USA.
The 111th Explorers Club Annual Dinner was held at three locations – the American Museum of Natural History, Intrepid and the United Nations Building. Guests included astronauts John Glenn, Buzz Aldrin and Mike Massimino; polar explorers Captain Alfred Scott McLaren, Dr Frederik Paulson and David Hempleman-Adams; and astrophysicist and cosmologist Neil DeGrasse Tyson, as well as international leaders, journalists, military heroes and royalty.
“The Planet is my home”, stated Mandip in his acceptance speech. “At the Explorers Club, we can expand this idea to imply that the whole universe – or all universes – are our Home.” Mandip joins the ranks of past awardees, including Jeff Bezoz, Robert Swan, Lord Robert S. T, Chorley, Naomi Uemura and many more.
