Discovery Health Partners, a division of LaunchPoint, today announced the delivery of two presentations at the 2015 National Other Party Liability Group (NOPLG) Conference in Arlington, Va. Discovery Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) expert Laura Cohen will discuss Unlocking the Power of MSP, Wednesday, April 8 at 10:15 a.m. and Discovery Subrogation expert Elizabeth A. Longo will discuss Next Generation Subrogation Solutions, Thursday, April 9 at 1:15 p.m. Both presentations will showcase the growing opportunity health plans have to improve their bottom lines either from optimizing premium restoration or using new subrogation techniques to help payers maximize recoveries as part of a payment integrity strategy.

“Most Medicare Advantage plans are surprised to learn that gaps in their MSP validation and premium restoration process result in millions of underpaid premium dollars. Even in established processes, challenges including validation dead ends, CMS denials, and inaccurate eligibility data often keep MA plans from receiving correct premiums,” said Cohen, vice president of operations at Discovery Health Partners. “Over time, this can add up to millions of dollars that can be restored with an improved process. In this session, we will discuss how to diagnose the health of a plan’s MSP process, explore common mistakes and review best practices to successfully identify and validate primacy, communicate changes to CMS, and restore underpaid premiums.”

In a second presentation, Longo will discuss how healthcare organizations can combine next generation subrogation techniques as an effective part of their payment integrity plan.

“Many health plans have struggled to maximize recoveries while reducing costs to realize the full financial benefit of their subrogation programs,” said Longo, general counsel for Discovery Health Partners. “We’ll discuss challenges which include transparency, identifying the right cases to pursue for recovery, optimizing the recovery process workflow, and evaluating and managing program performance. Overcoming these obstacles can add up to millions of dollars in additional recovery opportunities and efficiency cost savings.”
