Crain’s Chicago Business Names NuCurrent No. 1 on 2015 Eureka Index
Chicago (PRWEB) April 06, 2015 -- NuCurrent, a leader in wireless power antenna technology, announces the company has been named to the 2015 Crain’s Chicago Business Eureka Index, which identifies Chicago's most proficient producers of patents, based on headcount. After being awarded 14 patents in 2014, NuCurrent was named No. 1 on the index with the highest per-capita output of any Chicago-area company. The company was also listed in the top 10 percent overall in patent quality score, which considers the uniqueness of the invention covered by a patent and other important factors.
To identify the area’s most innovative companies, the Crain's Eureka Index looks at both quantity and quality of patents, with the help of Ocean Tomo, a Chicago-based merchant bank that specializes in intellectual property. It starts by identifying all the patents awarded to Illinois companies each year by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Ocean Tomo then applies a proprietary algorithm that evaluates the uniqueness of the invention covered by a patent, as well as other factors that indicate whether a company will invest money to maintain or defend it, or use it in a product. That produces an index score, which is averaged across all the patents awarded to the company for the year.
“We are honored to be recognized by Crain’s and Ocean Tomo as one of the Chicago-area's most innovative companies,” said Jacob Babcock, CEO, NuCurrent. “As a company that licenses cutting-edge antenna designs to customers around the world so they can create smaller, faster and more efficient wireless recharging systems, we believe patents are fundamental to the success of our business. Being recognized as a leader in generating high quality patents is further validation of the work being done in our lab on a daily basis.”
NuCurrent recently announced a $3.48 million Series A round of funding and a strategic partnership and investment from Molex, helping to expand the global manufacturer of electronic solutions’ wireless power capabilities. NuCurrent has also been selected as the reference antenna for the systems of other wireless power industry leaders including Broadcom and Efficient Power Conversion Corporation (EPC). Already supporting solutions across Wireless Power Consortium (Qi) and Power Matters Alliance (PMA) standards, NuCurrent’s high-efficiency resonators were also selected for the first commercially available Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP) certified products. The company’s high-efficiency antennas were also selected as the Wireless Power Consortium's standard antenna for in-car charging (i.e. charging a mobile phone by placing it on the center armrest of a car).
