InHand Electronics Builds a Military Training Device, Passes Strict Environmental, FCC, and 4G LTE Cellular Carrier Certifications for M2M Communications

InHand Electronics, a leading original design manufacturer of low-power embedded systems and mobile and rugged devices for original equipment manufacturers, announces its first cellular certification for this important M2M application area. The LTE-enabled device, designed and manufactured by InHand for a third party, is a military grade networked sensor hub, aggregating data within the device and communicating it to a central command database through a 4G commercial or private network. The networked sensor hub was built to meet the requirements of both military standard durability and cellular certification, which requires a number of radio, electronic, and mechanical performance and compliance measurements.

The networked sensor hub conforms to MIL-STD-810G requirements, meeting all required military environmental certifications, including shock/vibration, water, solar loading, and high/low temperature operation, and MIL-STD-461F requirements, passing electromagnetic (EMI/EMC) testing. To achieve cellular certification, InHand ushered the unit through FCC Part 15 compliance testing for unlicensed transmission devices plus PTCRB certification, which included custom antenna characterization, certification and compliance. The device also passed guidelines for Specific Absorption Rate, or SAR, which measures of the rate of absorption of radio frequency (RF) energy in human tissue. A generally rigorous process for first time certifications was passed on the first attempt for InHand, a company with years of wireless device design experience. With this feat, the company has additionally demonstrated its capabilities in design for LTE cellular networks.
