Motivational Speaker Dan Clark, Who Has Soared to Edge of Space, Honored with U.S. Air Force’s Highest Civilian Award for Public Service
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (PRWEB) April 07, 2015 -- Internationally acclaimed Hall of Fame motivational speaker, New York Times bestselling author, and philanthropist Dan Clark has been awarded the U.S. Department of the Air Force’s highest and most prestigious civilian award for serving on the Air Force’s elite National Civic Leaders Board and for his nearly two decades of exceptional public service to U.S. military troops around the world.
Clark, one of the foremost civilian advocates for the Air Force, was honored with the Distinguished Public Service Award at a special ceremony on February 5 at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling Air Force Base in Washington D.C., where the medal was presented by the Secretary of the Air Force, the Hon. Deborah Lee James, and the Air Force Chief of Staff, Gen. Mark Welsh III.
“I am incredibly humbled and honored to receive this U.S. Air Force honor in recognition of my lifelong commitment to serving our military at home and abroad,” said Clark, 60, of Salt Lake City. “The time I have invested into advising the leadership of the Air Force on the development of programs, operations, objectives and pressing public-relations issues has been one of the most rewarding and personally fulfilling experiences of my life.”
Clark was handpicked and appointed by the U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff to serve on his 20-member National Civic Leaders Board as a top civilian advocate and leadership consultant. Professionally, since 1982, Clark has addressed more than 4 million people, in over 4,500 corporate audiences in 54 nations, while volunteering his time and talents to speak to U.S. military troops and their families.
He has spoken to nearly every graduating class at Air University's Squadron Officer School and NCO Academy since 2001. Clark also has taught at BMT-Basic Military Training, inspired and entertained combat troops in war zones ranging from Iraq and Afghanistan to Ethiopia, and served as the keynote speaker at countless Air Force conferences, including the Four-Star Generals “Corona” Commanders’ Conferences throughout the world and many times at the Air Force Academy Character and Leadership Development Symposium.
During his speeches, Clark is known for his unique team-building techniques and for tackling tough, emotionally charged topics with deftness and insight, including duty, honor, integrity, resiliency, sexual assault, diversity, post-traumatic stress, suicide prevention, divorce, and relationship management.
“Because I have had the opportunity to fly most of the fighter jets and bombers in the Air Force fleet, and have even been to the edge of space in a U2 spy plane at a classified altitude above 70,000 feet to spend four hours looking at the curvature of the earth and pondering eternity, I can talk the Air Force language, and offer the lessons learned and my corporate and athletic experiences as solutions to the challenges they face,” Clark said. “At the end of the day, seeing the sacrifice and commitment of our Airmen to service before self inspires me more than I will ever inspire them. God bless our Airmen and their families!"
