ACM's 18th Annual Open House Provides Window on College, Its Opportunities
Cumberland, MD (PRWEB) April 06, 2015 -- Allegany College of Maryland highlights wide-ranging opportunities Saturday, April 11, when it hosts an open house combining important education and career information with the chance to win valuable tuition assistance.
This 18th annual event, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the Cumberland campus, showcases ACM’s numerous credit programs in career and transfer areas. The college is known for quality education delivered at reasonable cost at convenient locations.
ACM offers more than 60 career programs designed for prompt application in the workplace. There are also nearly three dozen transfer programs, which prepare graduates to continue their studies at four-year colleges.
Campus buildings hosting credit programs will be open for hands-on demonstrations and other activities to provide information about education and careers. High-tech equipment used in many instructional programs will be on view.
Academic areas of the college are in health care and human services; computer and other technology-based fields and business and hospitality professions. Transfer programs and patterns, primarily in the arts and sciences, include pre-professional.
Students and their families can take guided tours of the campus, starting with the College Center. Those interested in hospitality careers can also tour the Gateway Center, home of the School of Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts, in downtown Cumberland.
Willowbrook Woods, garden-apartment housing for ACM students, also can be toured. The complex houses 236 students in quadruple-occupancy, furnished apartments in five buildings adjacent to campus.
In addition to information about specific instructional programs and housing, open house offers general information about the college and its features, including academic and other support services that help students to be successful. Workshops on financial aid and what to know as a parent of a college student are presented.
Prospective students may take the placement assessment, which assists in proper course selection, at 9, 10 and 11 a.m. They are encouraged to make arrangements in advance by contacting the Student Success Center at 301-784-5551.
Open house attendees can take part in a random drawing of tuition vouchers totaling $3,000. Prospective new students who are interested must register in person and meet eligibility requirements for each of the six $500 awards, which are provided by the ACM Foundation. The winning names will be drawn at 1:30 p.m.
