Another Record Year for Düsseldorf Airport – 21.8 Million Passengers in 2014
Düsseldorf, Germany (PRWEB) April 08, 2015 -- DUS is reaping the rewards of smart strategic decisions as it breaks its own records for passenger numbers five years in a row, and 2014 is no exception: 21.84 million travelers arrived or departed from DUS, up from 21.23 in 2013. The airport’s profits rose from 34.5 to 42.9 million euro while revenue decreased from 429.2 million to 425.6 million euro.
Remarkably, the increase in passenger numbers is not necessarily a result of more flights -- the number of flight movements remained nearly constant at 210,732 – but of a stronger network of flights and connections as DUS improved its extensive offer of domestic and European flights. Moreover, new long-haul flights – including Air China to Beijing, Etihad to Abu Dhabi, American Airlines to Chicago, and All Nippon Airways to Tokyo - bring more options and passengers.
Long-haul flights at DUS continue to include non-stop service to seven US airports: Atlanta, Chicago O’Hare, Fort Myers, Los Angeles, Miami and two airports in New York – JFK and Newark. The largest airlines at DUS are Air Berlin (serving US airports: JFK, LAX, MIA, RSW) and Lufthansa (serving EWR and ORD). American Airlines offers daily flights to Chicago (ORD) and Delta Airlines daily flights to Atlanta (ATL).
Says the chairman of the airport’s management board Dr. Ludger Dohm: “We are very pleased with how things are going and we see a trend towards even more growth. These are signals that our strategy is working – to connect the people and businesses in our region with the leading markets and metropolises all over the world.”
Last but not least, DUS is an attractive airport for the convenience it offers in travel and retail. With all gates in one terminal building, the airport is known for its short distances and connecting times of as little as 35 minutes. The airport is home to more than 100 shops, bars, and restaurants, open 365 days a week.
