Sweeney’s expertise and editorial vision combined with his more than 25 years in the book trade, including Catholic and ecumenical religious book publishing, make him ideal for this new role within the Franciscan Media Books editorial team.

Leading Catholic multimedia and book publisher, Franciscan Media, today announces the addition of Jon M. Sweeney to lead its Franciscan Media Books editorial team as Editorial Director beginning August 1, 2015.

Most recently Editor-in-Chief and Publisher at Paraclete Press, Sweeney will lead the Franciscan Media editorial team as the organization continues to gain momentum amid a season of marked innovation within digital and print publishing and double-digit sales increases over the last year.

As editorial director, Sweeney will oversee top Franciscan Media Books author relationships along with the acquisition and development of new products to expand the imprint’s profile within publishing.

“This is an exceptional time for our organization as we continue to add value for authors and work as a team to expand our reach and be more relevant to Catholics, Christians and seekers alike,” said Mark Lombard, Book Division director at Franciscan Media. “Jon will be integral within these efforts and we are overjoyed to have him join our team.”

Prior to Paraclete, he served as Vice President of Marketing for Jewish Lights Publishing, and Co-Founder and Editor-in-Chief of SkyLight Paths Publishing. He is also the author of more than twenty books including The Pope Who Quit: A True Medieval Tale of Mystery, Death and Salvation and When Saint Francis Saved the Church: How a Converted Medieval Troubadour Created a Spiritual Vision for the Ages.
