Olive Fertility Centre is delighted to announce that Colleen Guimond, a board certified genetic counsellor, has joined Olive and will be on-site at the Vancouver clinic. Colleen will provide genetic counselling for women considering non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT), or genetic testing procedures like comprehensive chromosome screening (CCS) or preimplantation genetic screening (PGD).

“Colleen brings many years of experience to her role at Olive. Navigating NIPT or other forms of genetic testing can be complex,” says Dr Beth Taylor, medical director and head of the NIPT program at Olive Fertility Centre. “That’s why it’s important to have someone with Colleen’s knowledge to help women understand what the test they are seeking can and cannot do, what their options are and what their next steps may be.”

Colleen completed her undergraduate degree in Ontario at the University of Guelph and her Masters of Genetic Counselling degree at the University of British Columbia (UBC). She holds a Clinical Instructor position at UBC and thoroughly enjoys her involvement in teaching for both the Genetic Counselling Training Programme and UBC School of Medicine.

“I’m delighted to be able to use my expertise at Olive and to be part of a team providing high-level care and genetic services to pregnant and planning patients,” says Colleen.

Colleen’s areas of research interest and publications include reproductive decision-making, epidemiology of complex genetic disorders, multiple sclerosis, and familial forms of dementia.

When she is not working at Olive, Colleen co-ordinates a Canada-wide study at UBC investigating Early-Onset Familial Alzheimer Disease and offers information and support to patients and their families affected by this condition. Colleen is also on staff at BC Women’s and Children’s Hospital in the BC Prenatal Genetic Screening Program.

Olive Fertility Centre, http://www.olivefertility.com, is one of Canada’s largest fertility clinics, offering an advanced IVF lab, personal care teams and innovative programs that include the EmbryoScope, comprehensive chromosome screening (CCS), egg freezing, and prenatal NIPT testing.
