Mercy Hospital Joplin Partners with Allen Technologies To Provide Advanced Interactive Patient Engagement Tools
Joplin, Missouri (PRWEB) April 10, 2015 -- Mercy Hospital Joplin has selected Austin, Texas, based Allen Technologies to provide a full suite of interactive patient engagement solutions at the new 300-bed hospital which opened March 22, 2015.
The state-of-the-art hospital replaces the former St. John’s Mercy Regional Medical Center that was destroyed in May 2011 by an EF5 tornado. The hospital is part of the Chesterfield, Missouri-based Mercy health system.
Not only does the new hospital feature advanced storm-resistant design, Mercy Joplin offers the most advanced interactive patient engagement tools through Allen Technologies’ Interactive Patient System. Using Allen’s IPS integration with Emmi Solutions, Mercy Hospital Joplin’s nurses can select customized patient education videos directly from within the patient’s electronic health record in Epic. Using the same system they work in all day makes the process for tracking patient education seamless and more efficient.
Notices on the in-room TV alert the patient that education videos have been assigned, which patients can view from their hospital bed. Once the patient watches the video, that action is automatically documented in the patient record, further contributing to the hospital’s ability to meet meaningful use requirements.
“Allen Technologies’ integration with patient education content partner Emmi Solutions enables Mercy’s staff to work more efficiently, freeing more time for nursing care at the bedside and leading to improved outcomes and greater patient satisfaction,” said Carla Terrell, Mercy’s director of hospital-based physicians.
“We know that educated patients are healthier patients. Our integrated approach enhances our ability to educate and inform patients before they are admitted to the hospital, engage and educate them through the in-room tools while they are here and then continue that engagement after discharge,” she said.
The education capabilities of Allen Technologies’ in-room suite of IPS clinical tools includes:
- Auto-assignment of important safety and infection control information to patients;
- A customized educational video library;
- Educational pop-up reminders to patients;
- Personalized education inboxes for patients;
- Drill-down educational usage reporting;
- Direct patient access to their educational information;
- Clinical education advisory services; and
- Real-time patient feedback and requests.
In addition to the patient engagement tools, the Allen Technologies IPS solution offers an array of other features, including:
*Instant Emergency Notifications: In the event of weather or other emergencies, Allen Technologies’ site-wide notification feature enables the hospital to immediately push out instant messages to both patient and non-patient rooms.
*Meal Ordering: Integrating with Mercy’s CBord food services platform, the Allen Technologies’ IPS lets patients order meals for themselves and visitors through the television rather than traditional paper-based menus. The TV-based integration gives the patient greater flexibility on order times, while improving efficiency for the food services staff.
