The entire family is eagerly awaiting their move to Apopka which will place them closer to Orlando’s VA Medical Center.
APOPKA, Fla. (PRWEB) April 13, 2015
U.S. Bank, Freedom Alliance’s Heroes to Homeowners program and Five Brothers, are presenting the keys to a newly-renovated, mortgage-free home to retired Marine Corps Sgt. Cory Lewis and his family at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 1. Located at 421 Vicks Landing Drive, this is the fifth home donated to an injured service member through the partnership between U.S. Bank, Freedom Alliance and Five Brothers.
“Our family is truly humbled by this gift,” said Lewis. “This helps relieve the primary financial burden typical of homeownership and allows for a great start to our boys’ teenage years. We look forward to this new chapter in our lives.”
Born and raised in Southwest Kansas, Lewis graduated from St. John’s Military High School and joined the Marines in 2001. He served several tours overseas between 2001 and 2005, including a deployment to Iraq in 2003. It was during an assignment in Iraq that he and his unit were making their way to Baghdad and were pinned down by heavy weapons during a long firefight which left him with post-traumatic stress. Lewis also suffered back injuries that resulted in multiple spinal surgeries and the recent implant of a spinal cord stimulator.
Medically retired in 2010, Lewis still experiences weakness in his legs and severe pain in his back. He and his wife Danielle, who served in the Army for two years, have three boys. The entire family is eagerly awaiting their move to Apopka which will place them closer to Orlando’s VA Medical Center.
This home donation derived from a partnership between U.S. Bank, Freedom Alliance and Five Brothers, a real estate management company that helped renovate the home. Several U.S. Bank officials as well as representatives from Freedom Alliance and Five Brothers will be present to welcome Lewis and his family to their new home, including:
•,Edward Wooten, senior vice president, U.S. Bank National Corporate Banking
- Sam Hatfield, payments solutions consultant for Elavon, a subsidiary of U.S. Bank;
- Thomas Kilgannon, president of Freedom Alliance; and
- Joe Badalamenti, chief executive officer of Five Brothers.
“It is an honor to present this mortgage-free home to Sgt. Lewis and his family,” said Wooten. “Sgt. Lewis served America valiantly. We owe him and all servicemen and women our freedom. The community of Apopka is fortunate to have the Lewis family as neighbors.”
In addition to partnering with military service organizations such as Freedom Alliance, U.S. Bank supports National Guard and Reserve employees through its Proud to Serve program, a company-wide initiative focused on hiring and supporting service members and their families. U.S. Bank also hired more than 1,500 veterans between 2012 and 2014 and received the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award in 2013 for its exceptional support of employees serving in the Guard and Reserve.
“This home will help Sgt. Lewis become more independent and focus on his rehabilitation,” said Kilgannon. “He and so many others like him have sacrificed for our country and these homes are our way of expressing appreciation for their service.”
