Six New Radio Stations in Six Weeks: The Costa Report Says Talk Radio Shifting to “Post-Partisan Programming”
Monterey, California (PRWEB) April 15, 2015 -- The Costa Report announced today that six new radio stations have joined their affiliate network in the past six weeks: WZGM 1350AM, WBCF 97.1FM/1240AM, WHFS 1010AM, KYHN 1650AM, WTHU 1450AM, and KKGM 1630AM. Affiliate Manager for The Costa Report, Elena Cabrera-Larente, reports, “The Costa Report is on a steady course to add 1-2 new affiliates each week through the end of the year. We are on a roll.”
To what does the host of the program, Rebecca Costa, attribute talk radio’s transition to “post-partisan programming?” According to Costa, “There’s no reason to over-complicate the issue . . . talk radio is under water. Station owners and Programming Directors were led to believe there was a connection between audience size and profitability, so they signed up for the highest rated shows. But that model quickly breaks down when programming is too controversial for businesses to be associated with. Let’s face it, IBM, General Electric, and Walmart are not likely to advertise on Rush, Beck, Colmes, or Savage no matter how big those audiences get. And the same goes for local advertisers who recognize their customer base covers a wide spectrum of political beliefs.”
But, according to Costa, there’s light at the end of the tunnel. She claims talk radio is undergoing a transformation and offers the rapid fire expansion of The Costa Report as evidence. “Radio continues to be one of the best buys for the buck. It’s content that’s driven advertisers away, and fortunately, that’s an easy, fast fix.”
In spite of featuring controversial leaders each week - from Ron Paul, Trent Lott, Ralph Nader and Barney Frank to Michio Kaku, Steve Forbes and Carly Fiorina, The Costa Report has adopted a politically neutral “Charlie Rose-type format” -offering an in-depth look at current issues in government, business, technology and society at large. The weekly program includes a spirited roundtable discussion from the conservative, liberal, and independent perspective, as well as a technology and legal news segment by industry experts. The Costa Report was launched by world acclaimed sociobiologist and author, Rebecca Costa, in 2010 and is presently distributed via satellite by the Genesis Communications Network.
