Xojo, the company that enables 280,000 developers to build native cross-platform applications, today announced the availability of Xojo 2015 Release 2. This release expands the availability of Xojo’s new framework, making it easier to share code between the desktop, web, console and iOS. In addition, Xojo 2015 Release 2 improves upon Xojo’s support for iOS, reduces the size of built apps on Windows and Linux, and adds several language improvements.
Xojo introduced native iOS support in December 2014 enabling developers to build iOS applications in the same way they build web or desktop apps. Users can drag and drop to create the user interface and use one straight-forward programming language to implement the functionality of their app. Xojo makes it significantly faster and easier to create native iOS apps. Many iOS business apps rely on a web-based server application that provides business logic and database access. Xojo is the only development tool that provides the ability to create both a native iOS client application and a native server application from a single language and tool.
“When we introduced support for iOS four months ago, we also introduced a new framework,” commented Geoff Perlman, Xojo Founder and CEO. “We saw this as our opportunity to make our APIs more consistent between classes to increase productivity. With 2015r2, users can now write code using the new framework for all platforms rather than just iOS. Making changes this big is something many companies are afraid to do. In our case, we are afraid not to do them. To move forward, technology must continue to modernize or be left behind.”
"Xojo's steady roll out of the new framework across all platforms has added a new http socket that supports http 1.1,” commented Wayne Golding of Axis Direct Ltd. “This was very timely for my business."
