General Plastics Appoints Mitchell Johnson VP of Materials Technology
Tacoma, WA (PRWEB) April 16, 2015 -- General Plastics Manufacturing Company announced today the promotion of Mitchell Johnson to Vice President of Materials Technology, supporting the company’s efforts of sustainable growth and providing cutting-edge products to its customers.
General Plastics provides its signature Last-A-Foam® rigid and flexible polyurethane foam to the commercial aerospace, industrial, military and composite-manufacturing industries. In addition, the company molds, fabricates and constructs parts and assemblies. Custom foam formulations are also offered to meet customers’ special applications.
As VP of Materials Technology, Johnson is responsible for developing General Plastics’ strategic growth platforms, sharpening the company’s focus on new applications for its current products, and pioneering the development of new products to meet the emerging needs of the market.

Johnson will continue to lead a talented team of chemists and technicians, who under his leadership introduced the new FR-4600 Microcell series, a new foam system with superior surface quality, further strengthening General Plastics’ leading position in the field it serves. With Johnson and his team’s contribution, General Plastics Manufacturing Co. is also preparing to launch a low-density FST/OSU aerospace-grade foam serving the increasing need in the aerospace industry.
Mitchell Johnson, PhD, joined General Plastics from 3M Company in 2008 as a product development chemist, where he specialized in coatings, protective materials and foams. He was promoted to Director of Research and Development in 2009 and again to Senior Technical Director in 2011. He earned his doctorate from the University of Utah and pursued post-doctoral studies at Los Alamos National Laboratory where he studied organometallic lanthanide chemistry. Johnson holds over 16 patents and has published 8 technical journal articles.
