Shmoop Wins Court Order Restraining Copyright Infringement
Mountain View, California (PRWEB) April 20, 2015 -- Shmoop University announced that on March 27, 2015, the Delhi High Court issued an order restraining Goyal Brothers Prakashan, a publishing company located in India, from publishing and selling works infringing Shmoop’s copyrighted summaries of the novels The Invisible Man and Silas Marner. The court found that Shmoop's materials, which are available for free online, were copied verbatim into the infringing publications.
Shmoop (http://www.shmoop.com) is an established digital publisher that aims to make learning fun in the digital age. "Shmoop’s content is 100% original, and the ruling makes that abundantly clear," says Ellen Siminoff, President and CEO of Shmoop. "As a company, Shmoop encourages young students to think for themselves, and for that reason, we do not tolerate plagiarism of any kind."
As per case CS (OS) No. 876 of 2015 at the Delhi High Court, India, Goyal Brothers Prakashan is now restricted from directly or indirectly publishing, printing, distributing, selling, offering for sale, and advertising—including through their own and third party websites—Shmoop's copyrighted works.
