Percipient announced the launch of its automated ESI custodian questionnaire that permits attorneys and their clients to efficiently identify, preserve and collect electronically stored information (ESI) relevant to legal matters. The free service, which is accessed by visiting, permits users to send electronic questionnaires to persons possessing ESI and other documents relating to a legal dispute.

The service is free, easy to use and completely automated. To set up a questionnaire, users visit, provide their name, the email address to which questionnaire responses should be sent and the name of the legal matter for which the questionnaire is being used. Once this information is entered, an email is sent to the selected ESI custodians with a link to the questionnaire. After the custodians respond, answers are delivered by secure email to the person setting up the questionnaire. Litigation hold notice language may also be included and sent to the ESI custodian respondents.

Questions in the questionnaire address:
–identification of computers and devices used by the ESI custodians;
–the custodian’s knowledge about the legal matter;
–the custodian’s practices regarding email usage, storage of work related documents and general document retention practices.

Chad Main, Percipient's founder says the company developed the service to save clients time and money. "The tool permits our clients to save time and money. It helps identify the primary ESI custodians and streamlines custodian interviews. It also helps clients observe legal hold best practices by documenting efforts to preserve electronic documents and also by confirming the communication and receipt of legal hold notices."

Entry of information is secure and encrypted during transmission. No questionnaire responses are retained. Once the responses are sent to the person requesting them, the information is deleted from the servers.

Percipient is an e-discovery and legal technology company focused on managed document review. The company frees up time and resources by handling all aspects of a document review project including collection, review, analysis and production. (
