Smith & Associates, the largest independent distributor of electronic components, today announces its global headquarters’ certification to OHSAS 18001. This certification validates Smith's conformance to internationally recognized health and safety standards and the company’s dedication to the wellbeing of its employees and visitors.

The OHSAS 18001 standard ensures that occupational health and safety management systems are put in place and communicated across organizations through staff training and awareness efforts. Additionally, this framework confirms that organizations have proper planning, risk assessment, and emergency response procedures in place, and that monitoring and activities for continual improvement are being carried out. Smith’s certification to this standard underscores the company’s deep commitment to the wellbeing of its people and to visitors to Smith’s facilities.

“Smith’s strength comes from the skill, experience, and dedication of our global team,” said Kirk Wehby, Smith’s Chief Operating Officer. “That’s why our people and their health and safety are one of our highest priorities. Maintaining a vibrant and safe environment for our employees also provides guests to our facilities with the best accommodation and safety standards.”

In addition to identifying and controlling potential health and safety risks, adherence to the vigorous OHSAS 18001 standard also improves efficiency by protecting employees from accidents that can delay workflow. Smith’s occupational health and safety framework is honed to nurture a workplace of efficiency and excellence.

“Attaining certification to the OHSAS 18001 standard is confirmation of the high priority we have always placed on our workers’ and visitors’ wellbeing,” continued Kirk. “This certification is the next step in our commitment to continual improvement of our operations so that we can continue to provide our employees the best possible environment in which to work, thrive, and grow.”
