We’re grateful to the students, faculty, staff and alumni at Liberty U for generously bringing clean water and the Gospel to 7,000 Liberians. We’re also blown away by the kindness of the 88 students who are giving up their birthdays.

From the day Dr. Todd Phillips founded The Last Well (TLW) four years ago, the Texas non-profit organization has empowered young people to create meaningful change in their world. As part of its effort to bring fresh water and the Gospel to all of Liberia by 2020, TLW recently partnered with Liberty University. Between March 17 and 27, students, faculty and staff raised $21,000 through the TEN initiative, which will provide 7,000 Liberians with fresh water and the Good News of Jesus.

During the campaign, Liberty U encouraged people to give $10 to TLW. Usually a $20 donation is needed to bring clean water to one Liberian, but as TLW donors generously agreed to provide gift matching for the TEN drive, $10 was all that was required to change and potentially save a life. A group of Liberty U students has also committed to forfeit birthday presents and instead channel gift money to TLW.

“We’re grateful to the students, faculty, staff and alumni at Liberty U for generously bringing clean water and the Gospel to 7,000 Liberians,” said TLW founder and director Todd Phillips. “We’re also blown away by the kindness of the 88 students who are giving up their birthdays to bring much greater gifts to those in need.”

Since beginning its mission began, TLW has given 800,000 Liberians the gift of fresh, disease-free water. For the organization to meet its goal of extending this border-to-border in the West African nation, it needs additional funding to reach a further 900,000 people, who often have to walk miles to a water source that is often contaminated.

“We’re on schedule to complete more water projects in 2015 than ever before but up to 100 Liberians still die each day from cholera, dysentery and other diseases,” Phillips said. “We can only save more lives if people continue to give.”
