Three Convention Weekend Events Are Open to the Public

We invite the public to experience the joy of singing four part barbershop harmony. There is nothing like it!

Greater NY/NJ Region #15 includes more than 900 women who sing in 23 choruses. The region will hold a mass sing on the steps of the New York State Capitol Building at 12 noon on Friday, May 1st. The rain location will be inside the Empire State Plaza on the concourse. All are welcome to come and enjoy the sounds of a cappella, four part harmony in the barbershop style.

The mass sing event is free and kicks off the region’s annual Convention (May 1st – May 3rd, 2015) which is being held in Albany for the second consecutive year. Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan along with County Executive Daniel J. McCoy are scheduled to read a proclamation declaring May 1, 2015 “Sweet Adelines Day.” The performers at the mass sing will include members of Greater NY/NJ Region #15 choruses from New York and New Jersey who will sing songs such as Let There Be Peace on Earth, We’ll Meet Again, Kickin’ It Up a Notch, and Tuxedo Junction.

Also open to the public are the regional contests for both barbershop choruses and barbershop quartets which will be held at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center. Seventeen quartets will compete in the Quartet Competition which begins at 1:30pm on Friday, May 1, 2015 and the Chorus Competition begins at 12 noon on Saturday, May 2, 2015. Tickets will be on sale in the lobby outside the event at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center just before each competition. Tickets to each of the competitions (Chorus or Quartet) are $30.00 per person ($10.00 each for students). #harmonyonthehudson
