3scale, the leading self-serve API Management solutions provider, today announced the company grew more than 100 percent year over year with more than 600 customers. New customers in the last two quarters include an international sporting goods brand, a major US media company, a large financial institution, CareerBuilder, Honeywell and more. The company recently added RedHat as a partner with a 3scale JBoss integration offering as well as integrations for Stripe and continued work with Reverb and SmartBear on the Swagger specification. The company also welcomed industry veterans John Hubinger and Paul Butterworth to the 3scale board as Chairman of the Board and Technical Advisor, respectively.

The Age of APIs Is Now

Board Bench Strength
John Hubinger joins the board as Chairman. A serial entrepreneur with a strong track record of innovation and leadership in enterprise infrastructure software, Hubinger has successfully created and led the development of several software start-ups including Forte Software (acquired by Sun Microsystems) and AmberPoint (acquired by Oracle). He subsequently held senior vice president positions at both Sun and Oracle.

Paul Butterworth joins 3scale as a Technical Board Advisor. Currently Executive Vice President, Engineering at You Technology Inc. his past roles include co-founder and CTO of Emotive, where he conceived and designed the Emotive Cloud Platform for enterprise mobile computing. Previously, Paul was an Architect at Oracle and a founder & CTO at AmberPoint where he directed the technical strategy for the AmberPoint SOA governance products. Prior to AmberPoint, Paul was a Distinguished Engineer and Chief Technologist for the Developer Tools Group at Sun Microsystems and a founder, Founder, SVP and Chief Architect of Forte Software.

“My first experience with 3scale was to test it with my own company’s API, for which we built our own services. I got my first API open and up in about thirty minutes which puts their management platform in the 90th percentile for ease of setup. In addition, their architecture and approach to security – always a critical issue – is scalable and complete. If I were doing it over again, I would reconsider building my own” said Butterworth. “I was impressed with their team and architectural approach and wanted to get involved to help them move ahead with their product in this fast growing market.”

New Partners RedHat, Stripe, and Continued Swagger Support
Red Hat, Inc. the world’s leading provider of open source solutions and 3scale recently announced a collaboration to help organizations take advantage of new digital channels to reach customers and succeed in the API economy. The partnership focuses on enterprise and SMB customers implementing a total API management solution across the Red Hat solution and combines the 3Scale offering to augment their already strong open source stack.

3scale also announced it has integrated the popular Stripe payment option into its Power, Pro and Enterprise plans, allowing customers an easy option for managing developer payments. The ability to monetize APIs is crucial to many providers and this solution makes that aspect of API management much easier. Stripe is widely used among API providers and the new 3scale Stripe integration allows them to process payments with the solution they prefer.

3scale also supports Swagger, as it is an integral part of its tooling for the company’s ActiveDocs offering. 3scale believes that Swagger has the potential to grow even larger and be important part of the way APIs go mainstream, and is encouraged by SmartBear’s commitment to forming an open, vendor-neutral community around the Swagger specification. Additionally, 3scale recently announced a plug-in for SmartBear customers making it easy to import APIs into Ready!API for frictionless API testing and refinement as an extension 3scale.
