Durham, North Carolina (PRWEB) May 01, 2015 -- Brandy Barnes, founder of the national nonprofit organization DiabetesSisters, has announced her decision to step down as Chief Executive Officer of the organization effective May 1, 2015. She will remain active in the diabetes community and be involved in the organization’s leadership transition.
The Board of Directors has named Anna Norton as interim Chief Executive Officer effective May 1. Anna’s roots are deeply embedded at DiabetesSisters, serving initially as a Committee Member for the Weekend for Women Conference Series in 2011. Since 2012, she has served as the Operations Manager, overseeing many important functions for the organization. Prior to this position, Anna spent 13 years in the non-profit fundraising industry, focusing on development, annual gifts, event planning and community relations. She has worked for large university systems as well as metropolitan health care systems since 1999.
Over the last two and a half years, the DiabetesSisters’ team of Brandy and Anna have worked collaboratively to launch DiabetesSisters into a consistently growing jewel in the diabetes community, growing the Conference Series, launching a new website platform, creating a fast-growing and popular Life Class webinar series, and training community leaders to represent DiabetesSisters through the National PODS Meetup Program, which offers monthly peer support and education meetings in over 30 cities nationwide.
Diana Karczmarczk, PhD, MPH, MCHES, DiabetesSisters’ Chair of the Board said, “DiabetesSisters will be forever grateful to Brandy’s vision of filling a gap that existed in the healthcare system for women living with diabetes. Her dedication to the organization over the last seven years has been the driving force to its success. The Board is confident that Anna’s leadership will continue this trajectory. We are excited to have Anna, an experienced and well-respected professional who has lived with diabetes since 1993, naturally step into this leadership role.”
