New Clothing Line Sets to Make a Difference in the Growing Latino Community
Long Beach, CA (PRWEB) April 24, 2015 -- Standing Brown, a new culturally relevant apparel line, has recently launched to provide the Latino community with a positive sense of culture. “It seeks to reinforce the importance of positive messaging to create and promote social change,” stated Nohel Corral, founder of Standing Brown and educator. Standing Brown takes an active role in affecting change by providing the Latino community with a strong sense of self, a strong sense of culture, and positive encouragement and affirmation. These three character builders are especially important in providing opportunities for youth in attending school, college, and entering their careers. To this end, Standing Brown is committed to giving back to the community by creating college scholarships for Latino youth.
According to the United States Census Bureau (2013), as of July, 2013, the US has over 54 million Hispanics, making Hispanics one of the nation’s largest ethnic or racial group. Latinos comprise 17 percent of the nation’s total population. In California alone, 14.7 million Hispanics make up the largest Hispanic population of any state. “At this critical point in time and as Latinos continue to be one of the fastest growing demographic group in the US, the importance of strengthening our community and reinforcing positive messaging is now more crucial than ever,” stated Mr. Corral.
The desire of Latino youth to connect with their culture and identify with something that creates meaning for them is great. “We should never forget where we come from, especially because our Latino culture is very friendly, family is valued, and most importantly, being a Latino means that we are bi-national, bilingual and bi-cultural" states Wendy Talavera, a San Francisco State University student. Standing Brown works to bridge youth and the community to their culture.
The specific focus of Standing Brown designs is to provide positive affirmations for the Latino community to help promote the richness, beauty, and strength of the Latino culture. The company has sought out to design and build high quality designs and clothing to last years. From using a dye like process of discharged screen printing to soft 100% cotton material, all the components of the clothing line have been well thought out.
As Standing Brown launches their Kickstarter project, it’s anticipated the culturally based apparel line will raise enough funds to make a significant impact on the Latino community. The organization has created a Facebook Fan Page where the community can interact with the brand on a personal level. According to Mr. Corral, once the Kickstarter campaign is a success, the brand will work to expand their designs and scholarship contributions through their website.
