San Mateo, Calif. (PRWEB) April 29, 2015 -- Space‐Time Insight, the leading provider of next-generation situational intelligence solutions, congratulates Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) on being named a member of the 2015 Grid Edge 20. SMUD’s Situational Awareness and Visual Intelligence (SAVI) system was highlighted for its innovative and forward-thinking implementation of Space-Time Insight’s real-time visual analytics software. Each year, Greentech Media’s Grid Edge 20 awards highlight a score of companies throughout North America that are disrupting the electrical power sector through vision and innovation.
SMUD set goals for SAVI to improve the speed and quality of data analysis and decision-making throughout the organization’s Grid Planning and Operations department. In a matter of months, SMUD used Space-Time Insight’s situational intelligence software to integrate and correlate data from 30 disparate systems and transform it into a rich set of real-time visual analytics applications in its distribution operations center. A video of SMUD’s ground-breaking system is available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYgp3JxYxHQ.
“SMUD is extremely proud to be a member of the 2015 Grid Edge 20,” said Paul Lau, Chief Grid Strategy & Operations Officer at SMUD. “It’s an affirmation of our customer-centric approach to running our electric company. Smart grid-inspired technologies enable us to better serve our customers through improved energy efficiency, faster response to outages, increased renewable energy integration, and reduced peak load and system losses.”
“The Grid Edge 20 is an annual benchmark for the electric power industry,” said Steve Propper, director of grid edge at Greentech Media. "SMUD is a great example of an innovative municipal utility making smart investments to optimize its distribution network and prepare for the future of the grid."
