Elegant Interior Designs’ Founder Draws Home Furnishings Inspiration from Decorating Titans at Highpoint, N.C., Spring Market
Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) April 29, 2015 -- Elegant Interior Designs’ Pamela Kofsky mined the latest decorating ideas during the Spring Market at Highpoint, and even found inspiration through a chance encounter with famed fashion-turned-furnishings designer Alexander Julian at the industry’s semi-annual expo in North Carolina.
The April 18-23 event drew thousands of designers, retailers and manufacturers from across the U.S. to the epicenter of furniture and home furnishings, all seeking to showcase their newest pieces and generate buzz around their brands. Julian, long known for his Colours clothing brand and for creating his own fabric, made a significant splash with his fashion-inspired home décor pieces.
“There’s always been a synergy between fashion and interior design, and Alexander Julian has exploited that with these pieces,” says Kofsky. “It was a thrill to meet the man behind the work, and I had the opportunity to learn ways to help clients of Elegant Interior Designs incorporate that playful, whimsical sensibility into their home décor.”
Julian’s pieces may be best exemplified by his “Dapper Man” and “Coco’s String Of Pearls And Little Black Dress” lamps, two fanciful fixtures that adhere to his belief that fashion follows function. Working with furniture craftsman Jonathan Charles, his designs make use of precious woods, natural shell species and other organic materials to evoke the sun-and-sand lifestyle.
Kofsky, who attends Highpoint regularly to stay up to date on industry trends, also spoke with renowned designer Raymond Waites, whose signature look pairs opulence with more humble elements to create casual elegance. Her takeaway from that meeting?
“There’s great potential to create warm, welcoming, and classy environments without being garish, and sometimes simplicity can create an opulence all its own,” Kofsky says.
