Natural Investments Releases ‘The Resilient Investor’ and Honored in B Lab’s “Best for the World” List
(PRWEB) May 06, 2015 -- B Lab’s recently-released fourth annual “Best for the World List” included national portfolio management firm Natural Investments LLC as a company working to create positive overall social and environmental impact for a better world. For Natural Investments, the award is their second time on the B Lab list.
Each of the 120 ‘Best for the World’ companies is a Certified B Corporation. The companies come from 49 different industries such as manufacturing, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals and finance with 37% of honorees based outside the US.
The award dovetails with the April publication of the firm’s third book, “The Resilient Investor: A Plan for Your Life, Not Just Your Money" (Berrett-Koehler, 2015), written by managing partners Hal Brill, Michael Kramer, and Christopher Peck.
Peck says the company is proud to have earned the distinction: “We define ‘natural investing’ as actively seeking to balance the need for financial return with a commitment to make life better for others and for the Earth. We believe it is ‘natural’ to do so, and so are honored to be recognized as a company working to be not just the best in the world, but best for the world.”
Peck says both the award and book are related to the firm’s efforts to create a better world: “The focus of ‘The Resilient Investor’ is to encourage those who are socially responsible investors to take another step in relating their investments to the world at large. The book offers scenarios for a wide range of possible futures in an often-turbulent world. We show how to expand the concept of investing beyond stocks and bonds, wake up from dangerous old investing patterns, open your eyes to new opportunities, and build a better world.”
The centerpiece of this book is the Resilient Investment Map, which identifies three classes of assets. In addition to traditional financial assets, the book also discusses personal (skills, relationships, community) and tangible (homes, shared infrastructure, ecological systems) assets. Different strategies are available for each class of asset, depending on the client’s goals, personal as well as global.
“You can invest your assets in ways that strengthen yourself, your family, and your community,” says Peck. “You can invest in ways that encourage the continued growth of a sustainable global economy, or in more visionary efforts that will help create a better future.”
The goal of ‘The Resilient Investor’ is to help individual investors become prepared for a wide range of possible futures.
“We want readers to become more resilient in general,” says Peck. “You should be able to anticipate and prepare for disturbance, rebuild as necessary, and adapt and evolve when possible. And the good news is, the choices that ultimately make you the most resilient also enhance our communities, our economy, and the planet paying true dividends to everyone."
