The Quail Creek Relay for Life Team raised over $89,000 to benefit the American Cancer Society. Since 2001, the Quail Creek Relay team has raised almost $860,000. Quail Creek Country Club’s Relay team host events throughout the year, including their biggest event, January’s Dinner and Auction; an annual Putting Contest; and the Golf Ball Drop.
Quail Creek Relay for Life team was established to honor a member’s daughter who was battling cancer. Kate Kerwin, fitness director, states, “I was hooked when I learned how the money raised is used to fund cancer research.” She lost her mother to cancer and has a younger brother who was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. He is still alive today because of the continued research.
Quail Creek Country Club hosted the third annual Ball Drop on April 7. The helicopter dropped 150 golf balls near number 18 green. Members purchased a golf ball for $100 each and the ball that landed closest to the pin won $5,000. American Cancer Society received a donation of $6,800. The winning ball, purchased by Kathy Herrmann for her grandson, Gill, was closest to the pin, winning him $5,000. Lady Niners, Quail Creek’s Golf Association, continued its support of America Cancer Society with a check for $1,600.
