East Liverpool City Hospital Celebrates Patient Care Improvements
East Liverpool, Ohio (PRWEB) May 02, 2015 -- On Tuesday April 7th, the patient care staff of East Liverpool City Hospital (ELCH) gathered to celebrate improvements in patient care. In 2014 the hospital, under direction of River Valley Health Partners (RVHP), had zero acquired ventilator associated infections, zero central line associated infections, and zero urinary catheter associated infections. ELCH was also recently named a Top Performer by the Joint Commission.
The management team at ELCH credited the teamwork of staff from all departments involved in patient care. Pam Akin, R.N., M.S.N., Chief Nursing Officer said, “Our staff commitment to the patients we serve is very evident by these results.” ELCH has a quality team that is leading the way locally and in 2014 they established evidence based procedures and techniques that led to the zero infection rates. “Together with our physicians we are working diligently to institute industry evidence based procedures to ensure the health and safety of our patients and their families,” said Judy Carpenter, M.S.N., M.B.A., R.N., director of quality. Jayne Rose, MHA, RN-BC, said, “East Liverpool City Hospital is improving daily to meet the needs of our community in an effective, compassionate, and caring way and I am proud of the teamwork that went into these results.”
The Top Performer program recognizes hospitals for improving performance on evidence-based interventions that increase the chances of healthy outcomes for patients with certain conditions, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care, children’s asthma, stroke, venous thromboembolism and perinatal care, as well as for inpatient psychiatric services and immunizations.
To be a 2013 Top Performer, hospitals had to meet three performance criteria based on 2013 accountability measure data, including:
•Achieving cumulative performance of 95 percent or above across all reported accountability measures
•Achieving performance of 95 percent or above on each and every reported accountability measure where there were at least 30 denominator cases
•Having at least one core measure set that had a composite rate of 95 percent or above, and (within that measure set) all applicable individual accountability measures had a performance rate of 95 percent or above.
